New GST Rule from December 2025: Mandatory Bank Details for GST Compliance
Starting December 2025, GST registrations will face automatic suspension if bank account details are not updated within 30 days or before filing GSTR-1/IFF. This new compliance rule directly impacts filing, billing, and business continuity, making timely updates essential for businesses.
Starting December 2025, the GST portal introduces a strict compliance rule: failure to update bank account details within the required time will lead to automatic suspension of GST registration. This directly impacts filing, billing, and business continuity.
What’s the New Rule?
From December 2025, every new GST registration must update bank details:
- Within 30 days of GST registration
- OR before filing GSTR-1 or IFF (whichever comes first)
If these details are not updated, the GST number will be auto-suspended.
How This Affects Your Business
Once suspended, you cannot:
- File GSTR-3B
- Generate e-invoices or e-way bills
- Charge or collect GST from customers
- Claim or allow Input Tax Credit
- Continue GST-registered business legally
In simple words: No bank details = No GST compliance = Operations stop.
Why Is This Change Implemented?
The government has enforced this rule to:
- Stop fake GST registrations
- Track transactions better
- Improve compliance
- Ensure refunds go to verified bank accounts
How to Avoid Suspension
If your bank details are missing or incorrect:
- Go to: Services → Registration → Amendment of Registration → Non-Core Fields
- Update your bank account details
The system may automatically remove the suspension after verification.
If Suspension Doesn’t Clear Automatically
Go to:
- Services → User Services → View Notices and Orders → Initiate Drop Proceedings
This will help restore the registration manually.
Who Is Exempt?
Only:
- OIDAR taxpayers
- NRTP taxpayers
However, if OIDAR selects “Representative in India – Yes,” then bank details are mandatory.
Key Reminder for Taxpayers
- Make sure your bank account is updated in the GST portal
- Check your GST dashboard for pending notices
Final Message
This rule is not just a small update — it directly affects your filing, billing, and business continuity. If you or your clients recently registered under GST, updating bank details should now be the first step before filing any return.
