CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent in Nashik for Bribery
The CBI has arrested a Superintendent of CGST & Central Excise in Nashik for allegedly accepting a 5 lakh bribe related to an ITC case. Raids led to the recovery of ₹19 lakh in cash and key documents. The officer is currently in police custody.
In a major action against corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of CGST & Central Excise in Nashik, Maharashtra, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh. This arrest highlights the CBI’s strong efforts to tackle bribery in government offices.
The Bribery Allegation
According to the CBI, the case started when a businessman complained that the officer was demanding ₹50 lakh to avoid legal action against his company over an Input Tax Credit (ITC) issue under IGST.
After negotiations, the demand was reportedly reduced to ₹22 lakh, with the officer asking for:
- ₹5 lakh on October 14, 2025
- ₹17 lakh by October 17, 2025
The CBI Trap and Arrest
Acting quickly, the CBI registered a case and laid a trap. On October 14, the officer was caught red-handed outside his office while accepting the first installment of ₹5 lakh.
Following the arrest, the CBI searched his office and home. They recovered:
- ₹19 lakh in cash
- Several incriminating documents
Legal Action
The officer was presented before the court in Pune on October 15, 2025. He has been sent to police custody until October 17 for further investigation.
