EPFO Discontinues UAN Activation on Portal Activate via UMANG App

EPFO has stopped UAN activation on its Member Sewa portal. The process is now available only through the UMANG App using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication. This ensures better security, fraud prevention, and smoother services.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made a big change to how you activate your Universal Account Number (UAN).

If you’ve been searching for the “Activate UAN” link on the EPFO Member Sewa portal, you’ll notice it’s gone. Instead, you’ll see a message saying: “The facility for UAN Activation through this portal has been discontinued.”

So, what’s new? EPFO has shifted the entire process to the UMANG App (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), making it more secure and easy to use.

Goodbye Portal, Hello UMANG

From now on, UAN activation will only happen through the UMANG App using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).

This means your face will be scanned and verified using Aadhaar’s biometric system, ensuring stronger security and preventing fraud.

The New 5-Step Process for UAN Activation

Download the Apps
Install the UMANG App from Google Play or Apple App Store.
Also download the Aadhaar Face RD App (needed for face scan).
Log in to UMANG
Register or log in with your mobile number.
Go to EPFO Services
Search for EPFO inside the UMANG App.
Select UAN Activation
Choose “UAN Activation” (or “UAN Allotment and Activation” if you’re getting a new UAN).
Complete Authentication
Enter your Aadhaar number and Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
Verify with OTP.
Do the Face Authentication using Aadhaar Face RD App.
Once verified, your UAN will be activated. A password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
