Introduction

With the implementation of Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication and Document Verification, Uttar Pradesh's GST registration procedure has seen substantial changes. Strengthening the verification process, guaranteeing compliance, and lowering fraudulent registrations are the goals of these modifications.

It is essential to understand these new processes if you are registering for GST registration in Uttar Pradesh. This blog offers comprehensive details on the most recent advancements and the actions you must take.

Important Changes to the GST Registration Procedure

1. Modification to CGST Rules, 2017 Rule 8

With the amendment of Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017, applicants for GST registration can now use biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and real-time document verification.

Authentication Procedure

The GST Network's (GSTN) risk criteria and data analysis are used to develop the authentication procedure.

Requirements

At specified locations, applicants must present their original papers for verification and go through biometric authentication.

2. Uttar Pradesh's implementation

On March 15, 2025, the new feature was introduced in Uttar Pradesh. According to the revised criteria, all GST applicants in the state are required to adhere to the amended registration procedure.

How the New Document Verification and Biometric Process Operates

Step 1: Submitting an application for GST registration

Following submission of your GST REG-01 application, GSTN will review it and identify the authentication method needed for confirmation.

An email message with one of the two URLs below will be sent to you:

OTP-Based Aadhaar Authentication

You can use the current online procedure to verify your identity if you are sent a link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication. No requirement for document verification or biometric authentication at a physical location.

Verification of documents and biometric authentication at GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK)

You must use the given link to schedule an appointment at an authorized GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) if you receive an email requesting biometric authentication. Completing your GST registration requires this.

Step 2: Making a Biometric Authentication Appointment

In the event that you must attend a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK), do the following actions:

  1. Click the link in your email to schedule an appointment.
  2. Choose a time and date that works best for you.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email with the information as soon as the appointment is scheduled.
  4. Applicants in Uttar Pradesh will be able to use the appointment booking tool starting on March 18, 2025.

Step 3: Verification at the GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK)

Bring the necessary paperwork to the appropriate GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) on the day of the appointment.

Paperwork Needed for Biometric Validation

You need to bring the following with you when you visit the GSK:

Required Documents

  • A copy of your appointment confirmation email, either digital or paper.
  • Details of the jurisdiction as stated in the email of notification.
  • Original PAN card (for identification verification) and Aadhaar card.
  • Original copies of every document submitted with the GST application (as specified in the email notification).

Step 4: Finishing the Document and Biometric Verification

Biometric Authentication: The GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) will do biometric authentication using a fingerprint and a picture.

Document Verification: The original documents and the submitted ones will be compared.

Finalization: The verification procedure needs to be finished within the time frame specified in the email. A successful submission will be indicated by the generation of Application Reference Numbers (ARNs) following the completion of biometric authentication and document verification.

Important Things to Keep in Mind

  • March 18, 2025 is the start date for appointment booking.
  • Required Verification: For candidates chosen based on risk criteria, biometric verification is required.
  • Timeline: Finish the procedure by the deadline specified in your email of notification.
  • GST Suvidha Kendras (GSKs): Will function in accordance with governmental directives.
  • Consequences: The GST application may be rejected if the biometric verification is not completed.

Why Was This New System of Verification Introduced?

The implementation of authentication based on biometrics seeks to:

Avoid Fraud

Avoid phony GST registrations.

Improve Transparency

Make application information more authentic and transparent.

Increase Compliance

Increase adherence to the GST rules.

Real Companies

Make certain that only legitimate companies are granted GST registrations.

Last Remarks: Take Action Right Away to Guarantee a Simple GST Registration Procedure!

If you submitted an application for GST registration in Uttar Pradesh, look for the authentication link in your email. Make an appointment right away if you need to visit a GST Suvidha Kendra to prevent delays or application rejection.
